Montana Journalism Review is an annual media magazine with an accompanying website and social media platforms, all produced by students at the University of Montana School of Journalism. Founded in 1958 by J-School Dean Nathaniel Blumberg, MJR serves as a watchdog, scrutinizing Western news organizations and informing the journalism community about local, national and global industry trends. As the oldest journalism review in the country, MJR is rooted in tradition but strives to evolve with new digital storytelling methods, as evidenced by its 2016 web documentary on the Standing Rock pipeline protests in North Dakota. MJR receives funding from advertisers and the School of Journalism. Visit our website at mjr.jour.umt.edu and follow us on social media @MJRmag and @MontanaJournalismReview.
